As the year reaches its half time point, the literary teams of The Times and The Sunday Times have put aside their oranges to pick their best books of the year so far. It's a long list but with lockdown continuing to trundle through the summer, there is plenty of time to get stuck into their best book recommendations.
Why: We stopped off at Sofia en-route to Baku, Azerbaijan. Sofia is a pleasant, easy to navigate, friendly city — which surprised me somewhat. Being there was really easy, the city centre is full of art-deco classical buildings and parks, everyone we met was friendly and helpful and there were loads of great restaurants and shops too. We originally booked to fly from Barcelona to Sofia with Ryanair.
