The so-called judicial activism has resulted in establishing the institutional superiority of the superior judiciary in the country. It can also exercise this extraordinary constitutional jurisdiction on its own motion by taking Suo Motu actions against any person in the hierarchy of the executive branch of the government throughout the country. Over a period of time, the apex court has tended to exercise its Suo Motu jurisdiction excessively and rather aggressively. He took as many as Suo Motu actions during his chief justiceship.

The Criminal Justice System in Pakistan comprises of five components i. This study discusses and analyzes the efficiency level of these components by taking into account the work assigned and disposed of by every component of the criminal justice system during the year The scope of the study was limited to the four provinces namely Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. Data for cases registered by police, district and superior judiciary and prisons was obtained. A mix of primary and secondary data was used. It transpired that during the year , a total of , cases were registered by police in four provinces of Pakistan out of which 26 percent were still pending with the police at the end of the year.

The institution is not only considered the most sanctimonious pillar of the state but also a foundation on which civilizations are built. All philosophies ungrudgingly acknowledge the independence of the judiciary as a means to ensure social amity, political development, peace and progress in any society.
