Research Proposal: Gender Discrimination in the Workplace Abstract The more evidence we collect about poverty perpetuating discrimination, preventing the development, productivity and competitiveness, and also causing political instability, the harder it is to tolerate its existence within societies. Discrimination can occur at every stage of employment, from selection and recruitment to training and remuneration, and includes occupational segregation and the time of termination of the employment relationship. Men and women have a tendency to work in different sectors of the economy and hold different positions within the same occupational group. There is a tendency for women to be employed in a narrower range of occupations than men and are more likely to work part time or short-term contracts.
