Transmission systems around the world are increasingly applying capacitor banks on their transmission systems, primarily to support transmission systems and avoid voltage collapse issues leading to blackouts. Another trend is the utilization of underground cable to obtain right of way in corridors sensitive to overhead lines. These trends both leads to harmonic resonance issues. This paper presents three separate case studies of different situations and concludes with some of the general principles that can be derived from an examination of diverse case studies. Ne w substation is located near the load centers as far as possible to minimize the line losses. The substation electrical equipme nt should be in an efficient working condition to derive reliable and efficient operation, optimum utilization, reduced down time, minimizing re venue loss etc.

The Contractor shall follow all the prudent utility practices in the design and construction of the transmission lines. Also, the design and construction of the transmission lines shall be such that they perform their intended functions under the License. Conductor The conductor of appropriate size shall be selected considering power flow requirements and other system considerations in consultation with neighboring transmission and generation utilities.
Though they are considered to be the most stable and versatile semi-permanent structure, often they collapse due to failure of foundations, disrupting transfer of large blocks of power affecting the society to a larger extent. A brief review of literature on failure of transmission line tower foundations have been made and Case study involving data collection and visual inspection of transmission line tower foundation apart from diagnosis of transmission line tower stubs and laboratory experimentations have been presented. Based on the literature review and the case study undertaken as a part of the research, three predominant causes leading to failure of transmission line tower foundations have been discussed. Socio — economic impact of failure of transmission line tower foundations have been discussed. Remedial measures found through the research study for preventing failure of transmission line tower foundations have been briefly outlined.
